Offered here is an absolutely wonderful example of arguably the most important baseball issue from the Bowman company, the 1953 issue that features spectacular color photos on the front unmolested by any text or even graphic elements. This offering is in an overall condition that is markedly better than this classic set is typically encountered in older accumulations, essentially Excellent to Near-Mint (90 percent) and only four cards below. It comes out to 17 percent Near-Mint, and 55 percent Ex-Mt to Ex-Mt-Plus. The cards boast excellent color, photo registration and gloss, and create a remarkably consistent and uniform presentation right down to super clean card backs with vivid red spot color. The array includes Hall of Famers Larry Doby, Lou Boudreau, Nellie Fox and George Kell, along with a number of huge stars of the era like Ted Kluszewski and Minnie Minoso, plus Joe Garagiola, who became a big star in another era as a broadcaster. The breakdown: Near-Mint (7): No. 20, 22, 23, 28, 40 Doby, 41 and 56; Ex-Mt-Plus (13): 13, 16, 17, 19 Garagiola, 24, 25, 29, 31, 34, 36 Minoso, 52 and 62 Kluszewski; Ex-Mt (10): No. 2, 11, 12, 14, 15, 27, 37, 39, 43 and 57 Boudreau; Excellent-Plus (4): No. 1 Williams, 18 Fox, 58 and 61 Kell; Excellent (4): No. 35, 38, 53 and 54; VG-Ex: No. 26; Very Good: No. 63; and Good (2): No. 45 and 64.
