Here’s an essentially unimprovable Near-Mint to Mint complete set of the fabled 1953 Mother’s Cookies Pacific Coast League issue, an important minor-league card set from arguably the most-important minor league, one that was often referred to as “the third major league.” As noted, the 2 3/16-by-3 ½-inch cards are sensational, with perhaps only a couple of cards reaching Near-Mint status with even the tiniest bit of wear on the full-bleed colorful backgrounds, colors that display a remarkable vividness and wonderful gloss, nicely complemented by snow-white card backs. In a league made famous for its numerous major leaguers on the rosters who are either on their way up at the dawn of their careers or on the way down as twilight looms, former major-league slugger Lefty O'Doul, the most successful manager in PCL history, is pictured as manager of the San Diego Padres and is the key to the issue and found here in the same sterling condition as the rest of the array.
