This is an impressive array of nearly 1,000 cards from the popular and quirky Kellogg’s baseball issues through the decade of the 1970s, those infamous 3D cards that were really forerunners of intricate technology sports cards that would come decades later. In sizes generally around 2 ¼-by-3 ¼ inches, the cards were an important alternative in the earliest days of the organized hobby as a significant nationally distributed alternative to the annual Topps offerings. With the 3D technology, the Kellogg’s cards would develop a natural bend, and many would be subjected to the dreaded cracking, making this nice grouping of mostly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint all the more attractive; like a lot of mature collections, the broader grade actually improves a bit with the passage of time, with 1976 forward being even stronger than earlier years. The breakdown: 1970 (115), complete set (75) with extras, even with some HOFers; 1971 (38), mostly Near-Mint; 1972 (37), mostly Near-Mint; 1973 (56), mostly Near-Mint or better; 1974 (79), complete set (54), plus extras; 1975 (235), huge group mostly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint with some below, with complete set (57), with significant duplication, even with HOFers – Bench (5), Rose (4), Ryan (3) and Schmidt (5); 1976 (67), mostly Near-Mint or better, with complete set (57) and extras; 1977 (79), complete set (57) plus extras; 1978 (64), complete set (57) plus extras; 1979 (87), mostly Near-Mint, with a few below, complete set (60), plus extras; and 1980 (118), complete set (60) plus extras.
