Here are four pristine Topps baseball card sets from the close of the Decade of the 1970s that are seemingly in the same condition as when they rolled off the presses more than 40 years ago, which is to say Near-Mint or better. The 1976 and 1977 sets are complete at 660 cards each; the 1978 and 1979 sets have 726 cards each. These are four important Topps issues produced as the company’s 25-year dominance alone atop the baseball card world was coming to an end, with three of the four sets boasting the coveted “vending bend” that so eloquently bespeaks of uncirculated cardboard. The Tier One Hall of Famers and stars conform to the wider condition range; in the case of the 1978 set, the 44-card Traded set is also included.
