Presented is a fascinating single-page letter to a Tigers fan from Detroit Manager Steve O’Neill during the team’s torrid 1945 pennant run. Written in a fountain pen in the fashion of the day, the missive is on an 8 ½-by-6-inch page of Detroit Baseball Company letterhead, with Briggs Stadium address and is dated August 6, 1945. The brief letter alludes to a recent Tigers “collapse,” but he adds that he appreciates the support of fans. Included is a 6 ¾-by-4-inch envelope that boasts another elegant O'Neill autograph in fountain pen above the Tigers’ return address. With 3-cent postage, the envelope is postmarked Aug. 7, 1945 in Detroit. O’Neill’s assurances about the club proved accurate as they would ultimately reign as World Series Champions in that historic 1945 campaign. Basic COA from BAS.
