For collectors of one of the most attractive and important of the early 1960’s Topps football issues, this is a stunning Ex-Mt to Near-Mint or better monster, coming out at an amazing 76 percent Near-Mint or better, and 23 percent Ex-Mt to Ex-Mt-Plus. A roster of all the legendary figures from the NFL and their fledgling rival AFL, the issue boasts sharp corners and blazing, vivid colors in the striking red, green, yellow and blue panels, all with superb gloss and even super clean backs. That last description carries more weight in this circumstance, with the charming Make-A-Photo panels on the back almost universally unmolested (only two scratched), a true rarity even among advanced collections. The coveted issue marked the first year that Topps produced cards for the American Football League, expanding the set size to 198 cards to do so, making it the company’s largest to that point in time.
