July 15, 2021: Summer Auction

Presented is an extraordinary example of the popular 1970 Topps Football issue, a near set missing only two cards and including an extra six dozen or so cards in the same sparkling condition, which is to say primarily Near-Mint to Mint, with some Near-Mint. With no discernible difference between the Tier One Hall of Famers and the lowliest of commons, the lot presents a rare opportunity to pick up so many cards in the highest of grades. The only vaguely discouraging word would be an assessment that perhaps ½ of the array has the kind of centering that might prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would be severe enough to dictate a formal off-center designation; that modest qualifier applies to some of the keys, most notably Griese, Sayers, Csonka, Butkus and Olsen. The two missing cards from the set (261/263) are No. 156 Humphries Rookie and No. 180 Unitas. The group of extras (76) is essentially in the same condition as the near set, with the same general ratio concerning centering, and includes eight Hall of Famers and a Checklist.
