July 15, 2021: Summer Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/15/2021
Offered is a rare opportunity to pick up three near sets of the popular 1976 Topps Basketball issue, cards that are broadly Near-Mint or better, with superb colors and gloss and a striking, uniform presentation. Hall of Famers and stars generally conform to the wider condition range, with the key exceptions noted in the listing below. These are wonderful examples of the 5 ¼-by-3 1/8-inch cards that represented Topps’ return to the oversized card format that the company had used to great effect in 1969 and 1970. In addition to the three near sets, there are an additional 179 cards in generally the same high grades, an array that includes almost two dozen Hall of Famers, 13 All-Stars and a pair of Checklists. Breakdown of the sets: 1) First set (142/144) is missing two cards: Nos. 110 and 126. Keys and condition anomalies: No. 1 Erving – VG-Ex, 5 Unseld – Ex-Mt, 36 – Ex-Mt, 60 Maravich – VG-Ex, 76 Bing – Ex-Mt-Plus, 110 – Ex-Mt-Plus and 130 Maravich All-Star – Ex-Mt; 2) Second set (137/144) – No. 2 – Excellent, 60 Maravich – Very Good, 100 Abdul-Jabbar – VG-Ex, 127 Erving All-Star – VG-Ex (diamond cut), and 133 Hayes All-Star – VG-Ex. The missing cards: No. 1, 57, 70, 90, 101, 110 and 125; 3) Third set (130/144) – the No. 100 Abdul-Jabbar is VG-Ex. The missing cards: No. 1, 38, 57, 60, 68, 70, 90, 98, 101, 105, 110, 126, 127 and 140.
