Though the Masters Collection had initially been issued in 1993, the 1997 version had something special going for it: the inclusion of the Masters winner that year, Tiger Woods, represented here in a sparkling PSA 7 slab. Woods upended the golf and collecting universes at the same time with his historic Masters victory in heralding the arrival of perhaps the greatest golfer of all time. The elegant 2 ½-by-4 ¾-inch cards boast the gold foil accenting the glossy black-bordered presentation that features one card for every Masters winner up to that point, all found here in essentially as-issued, Near-Mint to Mint or better condition, with maybe a handful relegated to mere Near-Mint status. As noted, the cards present in spectacular fashion, with superb gloss and vivid color photographs for the winners from 1965 forward and black-and-white before that. The set is complete at 62 cards, with a title card and the winners from 1934-97, with no Masters being played during the World War II years from 1943-45.
