Presented are seven of the historic baseball card sets that marked the onset of the modern age of baseball cards, sets from new competitors Fleer and Donruss, and issues appropriately enough offered here in essentially the same condition as the day they rolled off the presses so many decades ago. The sets are uniformly Near-Mint or better, with Tier One Hall of Famers and stars conforming to the wider condition range. And Near-Mint is obviously an understatement in many instances, certainly among the three factory sets still neatly wrapped in original cellophane packaging. The sole exception, call it the stutter that accents the eloquence, is the Don Mattingly card from the 1985 Donruss set, which could stand an upgrade. The breakdown: 1981 Donruss (605), 1981 Fleer (660), 1983 Topps (792), 1983 Donruss Factory Set (660) with original cellophane intact, 1985 Donruss Factory Set (660) with original cellophane intact, 1985 Donruss (660) and 1986 Donruss Factory Set (660) with original cellophane intact.
