Here’s one of the nicest groups of the quirky 1951 Berk Ross Hit Parade of Champions issue that we've handled, a blazing mostly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint array that features some of the baseball keys in top grades along with some of the blazers from other sports, most notably the Jesse Owens card, along with boxing legends Ray Robinson, Jake LaMotta and Ezzard Charles, NBA Hall of Famers Bob Cousy and Bill Sharman, golf’s Ben Hogan and famed skater Dick Button. Mix in baseball greats Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Warren Spahn and Richie Ashburn and you have a launch on an incredible high-grade set of these charming 2 1/16-by-2 1/2-inch cards. The issue has an unusual numbering system of four subsets, with the baseball component the first 10 numbers in each of the four. Overall, the array comes out to an imposing 43 percent Near-Mint, 37 percent Ex-Mt, 11 percent Excellent, 6 percent Very Good to VG-Ex, and only a couple below. The breakdown of keys: No. 1-9 Ashburn – Ex-Mt-Plus, 1-11 Cousy – Excellent, 1-13 Charles – Ex-Mt, 1-14 Hart – Ex-Mt-Plus, 1-16 Hogan – Near-Mint, 2-2 Spahn – Ex-Mt-Plus, 2-4 Berra – Ex-Mt-Plus, 2-13 Ray Robinson – Ex-Mt-Plus, 2-17 Button – Nr-Mt, 3-12 LaMotta – Ex-Mt-Plus, 3-16 Abel – Nr-Mt, 3-18 Owens – Ex-Mt-Plus, 4-5 Ford – Ex-Mt-Plus and 4-11 Sharman – Nr-Mt o/c.
