Here are four cards from one of the scarcest and most-difficult regional food issues of the 1950s, the 1953 Briggs Meats cards that were issued in two-card panels that featured players from the three New York-based ballclubs and the Washington Senators. Proximity to meat products may be the ultimate condition sensitivity issue, and it certainly applies here to one of the toughest sets of the era. The 2 ¼-by-3 ½-inch cards are blank backed and unnumbered and are heavily waxed to confront the indignity of aligning themselves with hot dogs and such. The breakdown: Marrero – Excellent, Porterfield – Good, Shea – Good and Yost – VG-Ex.
