November 18, 2021: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/18/2021
Offered is an astounding accumulation of collector-grade late-1960s and 1970s baseball cards, with several complete and partial sets included in the mix along with key Hall of Famers and Rookies and literally hundreds of stars, minor stars and specials. It’s the kind of lot that begs for a good deal of close examination, with lower grades in the earliest years that improve over time to the later 1970s when complete or partial sets turn up in mostly Near-Mint condition. A 1973 Topps Mike Schmidt Rookie card in a partial set headlines the massive array along with multiples of HOFers like Aaron, Ryan, Mays, Yastrzemski et al. The breakdown, with all cards Topps and for individuals the regular-issue Topps card unless otherwise indicated (numbers are approximate): 1968 (375) – mostly Fair to Very Good with emphasis to Good, including stars, minor stars and Specials; 1969 (750) – mostly Fair to Very Good with emphasis to Good, including a couple of HOFers, stars, minor stars and Specials; 1970 (1,300) – mostly Good to Excellent, quite a few Ex-Mt, with massive duplication and confined to first six series; 1971 (500) – same condition description as 1970, confined to Nos. 1-440, with Munson (2) and Rose (2); 1972 (125) – same condition description as 1971, with Mays and many Specials; 1973 (700) – mostly Very Good to Ex-Mt with many Near-Mint examples, comprising a partial set across all seven series and featuring the Schmidt Rookie (Ex-Mt o/c), Ryan, Mays (2), and Aaron (2); 1974 (325) – same condition description as 1973, including No. 1 Aaron, Munson, Yastrzemski, McCovey and Carew; 1975 (100) – Good to Excellent, with some Ex-Mt, including No. 660 Aaron (Good); 1976 (660) – complete set, mostly Near-Mint with some Ex-Mt and HOFers conforming to the wider condition range; 1977 (1,160) – complete set (660) and (500) extras, same condition description as 1976, but about three dozen or so with a light wrinkle at the center from a rubber band – the extras are mostly Good to Ex with quite a few Ex-Mt; 1978 (1,520) – with a complete set (726) that is largely Nr-Mt to Nr-Mt to Mt, plus (800) extras that are broadly Good to Ex, with some Ex-Mt; and 1979 (800), mostly Good to Ex, with some Ex-Mt; and miscellaneous (13), including eight (8) 1971 Supers and two Hostess Three-Card Panels, both with Yastrzemski.
