November 18, 2021: Fall Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/18/2021
Presented is an extraordinary opportunity to recapture the giddy days of the 1970s in an enormous Topps baseball array that features literally hundreds of Hall of Famers and stars, plus a boatload of Specials and several thousand minor stars and commons, with most of the HOFers and stars in simply spectacular Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint condition, with some below. If 250 Hall of Famer cards don't grab your attention, how about pristine, often multiples of Rookie cards from the likes of Ted Simmons, Dave Parker, Eckersley, Sutter, Murray, Molitor and others. With thousands of cards and a lengthy list of Cooperstown royalty, it’s a massive, unique lot that begs for a good deal of careful examination. We'll break it down as best we can, with a separate listing at the end for a pair of 1,000-count boxes of mostly commons from 1978 and 1979: 1971 (288) – really stunning mostly Near-Mint or better black-border beauties, including Simmons Rookies (3), Munson, No. 1 Orioles Team, Rose, McCovey (3), Stargell (2), Seaver and Kaline; 1972 (60) – Gibson, Seaver, Yastrzemski, Frank Robinson, Brock and McCovey, plus Pirates No. 1 Team card; 1973 (50) – including Jackson, Yastrzemski, Carlton and Aparicio; 1974 (11), with Parker Rookie, Jackson, Carew and Munson; 1975 (11) – including two (2) Munsons and seven Minis (Jackson, Rose, Seaver and Carew); 1976 (17) – Aaron Record Breaker, Rose, Carew (2), Seaver (2), Carlton, Williams, Niekro, Gossage, Carlton, Eckersley Rookie and Munson; 1977 (51), with 40 HOFers, including Jackson, Schmidt (3), Yastrzemski, Yount, Carew, Sutter Rookie (7), Brooks Robinson (2), Stargell, McCovey, Brock, Carter, Carlton, Sutton, Palmer (2), Seaver, Eckersley (5), Munson (4), Hunter, Fingers, Niekro and Perry; 1978 (100), with 70 HOFers, including Murray Rookie (3), Molitor Rookie (3), Jackson (3), Schmidt (3), Rose (2), Brett (3), Ryan (2), Bench, Dawson (10), Rose (3), Munson (2), Seaver (2), Stargell, McCovey (2), Yount, Brock (2), Carter (3), Carew (3), Carlton (2), Hunter, Winfield (2), Palmer (3), Sutton, Eckersley (2), Jenkins, Fisk and Morgan, plus nine (9) other Rookie cards and 20 Specials; 1979 (72) – with 56 HOFers, including Schmidt (3), Jackson (2), Yastrzemski (2), Seaver (5), Munson, Brett, Yount, Bench (2), Morgan (5), Carew (2), Palmer (4), Molitor (3), Carlton (2), Murray (2), Eckersley, Dawson (2), Stargell, Perry and Brock: and 1980 (368) – with 40 HOFers, including Jackson (2), Yastrzemski (3), Brett, Schmidt (4), Bench (2), Carew, Yount, Murray (3), Dawson (3), Morgan, McCovey (2), Smith (2), Winfield (3), Stargell (2), Carlton (2), Palmer (2), Carter, Molitor, Fisk, Rice and Perry. The second element of this remarkable lot is two 1,000-count boxes of Topps baseball from 1977 and 1978, with boxes largely in Ex-Mt to Near-Mint condition, with some below, with largely commons and Specials in two of the boxes (one for each year) and a nice contingent of Hall of Famers, stars and Specials in the other two. The 1977 group includes Hall of Famers and stars, plus 17 Team cards, 14 Rookies and 33 other Specials; the 1978 box is similarly configured, with 38 Team cards, 22 Rookies and 16 Specials. The card-box numbers are approximate.
