Here’s a fascinating artifact touching a pair of important 1960s and 1970s pitchers, Dick Selma and the legendary Mike Marshall, a minor-league jersey from the Albuquerque Dukes linked to the pair at different times. The bright-yellow knit pullover has ribbed-knit and matching sleeve-end style, with Dukes team mascot patch straight-stitched onto the left sleeve. The U.S. Bicentennial patch (small version 2 ¾-inch in diameter) on the right sleeve, with “Dukes” plus No. 24 front and back sewn on in two-color red-on-white tackle twill with two-color stitching. The Rawlings Size 46 tag appears on the front tail; shirt reveals nice wear on jersey front and identifiers plus label wear and the upper jersey back has extensive piling all across the back onto the back sleeves. The 1974 Cy Young Award winner Marshall signed the jersey on the front; he ended up in Albuquerque in 1981 at the close of his remarkable major-league career that included stints with nine teams in 14 years, compiling a 97-112 log with 3.14 ERA. Along with the Cy Young in 1974, Marshall was a two-time All-Star and three-time Saves leader, earning 188 in his career. Selma logged 10 major-league seasons for six different teams, ending at 42-54 with 3.62 ERA. He turned up in the Pacific Coast League with several clubs following the end of his time in the majors, wearing No. 24 with the Dukes in 1976 in 42 appearances.
