Here is one of the most distinctive uniform elements of the 1960s era, the Pirates famed “vest” that provided a generation of Pittsburgh stalwarts with a unique look virtually unmatched throughout the league. The offered grey vest flannel may also lay claim to epic lineage, boasting the Haddix No. 31 and stopping short of precise linkage to the star hurler only because of the absence of a year flap tag. Adding to the mystique is an elegant Haddix autograph at the back of the collar. The vest has seven-button front with collar piping partially intact and some arm yoke piping missing. All identifiers are black-on-yellow felt. The Rawlings Size 42 labeling matches the appropriate 1962-71 styling for the club; the Pirates used Rawlings and Spalding road jerseys during that span, some with the name in the tail and others without a year flap tag. The striking Haddix autograph helps make the case for his usage, but other possibilities include Billy O'Dell, Bill Henry or perhaps even Gene Garber at the end of the decade.
