Here’s an amazing artifact from the middle of the Great Depression and the heyday of “The Gas House Gang,” a department store sweatshirt box featuring the Cardinals’ pitching duo, complete with box top. The 10 ½-by-14-inch box (8 inches deep) has store labeling on one side for “Dizzy and Paul Dean Sweatshirts”; the box itself is in Excellent condition, with some light scuffing and slight paper separation at one edge. The box top with images of the pair has some staining and unobtrusive extraneous handwriting; also included is a Poor condition 8-by-10-inch photo of the two pitchers with facsimile autographs.
