Here’s a really difficult early Topps football issue, the quaint 1951 Magic Football set that featured collegiate players and constituted an early effort by the card maker to tackle the football-card market. The 2 1/16-by-2 15/16-inch cards are found here in grades markedly better than this issue is typically encountered in mature collections, generally 72 percent Excellent to Ex-Mt and 24 percent Very Good to VG-Ex, with only 4 percent below. Breakdown of some of the keys: No. 1 – Good, 2 Wade Rookie – VG-Ex, 4 Parilli Rookie – Excellent, 10 Janowicz Rookie – Very Good, 19 Campbell Rookie – Ex, 43 Young – Good and 75 – Fair.
