Here’s one of the neatest hockey artifacts we've encountered in some time, a truly charming 1950s semipro hockey ensemble that includes jersey, pants, leggings and goalie glove, all in a well-worn but highly presentable condition. The jersey is a maroon heavy durene blend, with embedded yellow-and-cream striping, reinforced elbows and round-neck collar. No. 1 appears on the back in cream felt, straight-stitch affixed. “Book Travel Bureau” is screened on the front with sewn Crown Travel motif crest that is zig-zag affixed. The jersey has a Lippman’s label in the lower tail, a noted Detroit area distributor. The same tagging appears on the pants with Size 44 label on the inner fly area, with string fly fastener and white-and-yellow braid side piping. The pants have built-in thigh pads and hip padding. Along with matching leggings, a sparkling goalie glove made by Cooper rounds out a remarkable ensemble.
