Here are 11 cards from the legendary 1948 Bowman Baseball issue, the first major post war baseball card set and a traditional starting point for many advanced vintage collections. The 2 1/16-by-2 ½-inch cards feature black-and-white photography of the great stars of the era, with the timing following the end of World War II dictating that about 1/3 of the cards in the set are the Rookie cards. That designation applies to the likes of Warren Spahn, Ralph Kiner, Phil Rizzuto and Red Schoendienst. The offered array is in an overall condition range that is markedly better than these important cards are typically encountered in mature collections and includes one of the difficult short prints in the lineup (Rizzuto). The breakdown: No. 3 Kiner – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 4 Mize – Excellent, No. 5 Feller – Ex-Mt-Plus, No. 8 Rizzuto Rookie – Very Good, No. 12 Sain Rookie – Ex-Plus, No. 17 Slaughter – Near-Mint, No. 18 Spahn Rookie – VG-Ex, No. 36 Musial – Minimum Size, No. 38 Schoendienst Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus and No. 40 Marion Rookie – Near-Mint.
