Presented is a near set of the important 1953 Topps Baseball issue, found here in a condition range fairly typical of how this issue is encountered in mature collections, primarily Good to Very Good, with some above to Excellent and below to Fair. The iconic Topps issue depicting players in attractive paintings rather than the colorized black-and-white photography of the previous year is easily one of the most recognizable and important issues of the Golden Era of the 1950s. This near set is missing three of the keys – Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson – and boasts an impressive, consistent presentation that comes out to 7 percent Excellent, 51 percent Very Good to VG-Ex, 28 percent Good and 12 percent Fair. Breakdown of keys: No. 27 Campanella – Very Good, 37 Mathews – Fair, 41 Slaughter – VG, 54 Feller – VG, 61 Wynn – VG, 62 Irvin – VG-Ex, 76 Reese – Fair, 77 Mize – Fair, 78 Schoendienst – Good, 86 Martin – Fair (mk), 104 Berra – Good (mk), 114 Rizzuto – VG-Ex, 125 Dick Williams – VG-Ex, 138 Kell – VG-Ex, 147 Spahn – Good, 151 Wilhelm – Fair, 191 Kiner – Good, 207 Ford – Fair, 220 Paige – PSA 1 (m/c), 128 Newhouser – Good, 258 Gilliam Rookie – Fair, 263 Podres Rookie – Fair, 273 Haddix Rookie – VG and 280 Bolling Rookie – Good.
