Here are 54 different cards from what is arguably the coolest baseball card set of the postwar era, the classic 1953 Bowman Baseball Color issue that presented its elegant 2 ½-by-3 ¾-inch charges in a no-frills design format that showcased simply stunning color photography for the period. The offered array is mostly Excellent to Near-Mint, with only 10 cards below at VG-Ex. A handsome No. 117 Duke Snider is neatly entombed in an SGC 4 slab, and there are three of the difficult high numbers included in the array. The group is markedly better than this hallowed issue is typically encountered in mature collections, coming in at 15 percent Near-Mint, 56 percent Ex-Mt, nine percent Excellent and 19 percent VG-Ex. It should be pointed out that a few of the Ex-Mt cards actually present as Near-Mint but wind up with the lower grade because of gum staining on the reverse. The breakdown: Near-Mint (8): No. 26, 41, 49 Stanky o/c, 76, 79, 85, 95 o/c and 108 o/c; Ex-Mt (30): No. 2, 4, 15, 20 o/c, 22, 23, 24 Jensen o/c, 25 o/c, 28 Burgess, 30, 31, 34, 35, 38, 47 Garver, 50, 56, 58, 67, 73 o/c, 74 Mueller, 83, 87, 88 o/c, 89 o/c, 105, 106 o/c, 110 o/c, 122 and 147 o/c; Excellent (5): No. 6, 14, 48 Sauer, 102 Hegan o/c and 103 Ennis o/c; and VG-Ex (10): No. 1 Williams, 19 o/c, 29, 60 o/c, 65 Roberts o/c, 75 o/c, 100, 107 o/c, 112 and 143 Lopez o/c.
