Here's one of the more remarkable lots you'll encounter, a massive array of primarily Topps baseball cards from the closing years of their 25-year monopoly in the business and the early years of the modern hobby. In addition to about 16,000 Topps cards, there are about 4,800 cards from Fleer and Donruss; while this obviously is a weighty pile of pasteboards, it’s not just heft we're talking here, with a likely lineup of more than 300 Hall of Famers accounted for and countless others quietly nestled within the larger body, which also features an astonishing number of Specials. So it’s a lot, but a lot of value, including many of the most important and iconic cards of the era. It’s the kind of lot that begs for a good deal of close examination, and we'll try out best to offer as much information as possible. The condition range is typically Ex-Mt to Near-Mint or better, with some below and anomalies noted. The breakdown (numbers are approximate): 1975 Topps Minis (200) – including Jim Rice Rookie, 11 MVP subset cards, six Teams, five World Series, three Leaders and four Checklists; 1976 Topps (36); 1977 Topps (1,000) – with more than three dozen Hall of Famers, including Rose, Brett, Jackson (2), Bench, Schmidt, Yount, Yastrzemski (2), Munson, Stargell (3), Carlton (3), Morgan, Brooks Robinson, Sutter Rookie (2), Carter, Brock and Mazeroski; 1978 Topps (1,500) – largely Excellent to Near-Mint, with more than three dozen Hall of Famers, including Rose (3), Jackson (2), Bench (3), Morris Rookie, Schmidt (2), Morgan (2), Munson, Yastrzemski, Stargell (2) McCovey and Fisk (3); 1979 Topps (3,100) – Excellent to Near-Mint, with more than five dozen Hall of Famers, including Rose (3), Schmidt, Murray (2), Bench (6), Yastrzemski (6), Seaver (3), Munson (5), Morgan (5), Brock (5), Carew (2) and Molitor; 1980 Topps (2,000) – (several hundred cards from vending) – with two dozen Hall of Famers, including Brett, Rose, Seaver, Jackson, Carew (7), Bench (2), Yastrzemski (6), Ozzie Smith (2) and Yount; 1981 Topps (5,700) – with more than four dozen Hall of Famers, including Ryan (2), Brett (2), Henderson (4), Raines Rookie (5), Valenzuela Rookie (4), Schmidt (6), Murray (2), Rose (3), Jackson (3) and Yastrzemski (5); 1982 Topps (2,200) – with several hundred from vending, and two dozen Hall of Famers, including Yastrzemski (2), Bench, Jackson, Schmidt and Stargell; and 1981-83 Fleer and Donruss (4,800) – including mostly 1981 Fleer cards of Rose (4), Henderson (3), Jackson, Schmidt, Yount, Yastrzemski, Murray and Bench. See, we told you it was a whole bunch, and we only hope the postman will forgive us.
