Here’s a nifty artifact from a pivotal year in Chicago Cubs modern history, a 1969 road gray flannel attributed to both Dick Selma and Archie Reynolds, with the former arriving in the Windy City after being traded by the Mets, the very team that would orchestrate the Cubbies’ agonizing disappointment as the regular season unfolded. The road grey cotton flannel has the seven-button front, with “Chicago” and numerals sewn on in royal-blue tackle twill. The No. 39 has been changed to No. 62 for training camp and/or minor-league use. The iconic Cubbie Bear patch is zig-zag affixed on the left sleeve and the MLB 100th Anniversary patch has been removed from the right sleeve, with faint outline of remnants still visible. Wilson Size 46 tail label is a style they used from 1967-73, with “1969” chain stitched beneath; a collar swatch of “39-69-4-46” is also present. Selma came to the Cubs on April 25, 1969, with the shirt seemingly worn briefly by Reynolds and then by Selma.
