Here’s a great piece from one of the legendary flamethrowers from a half-century ago, the two-time All-Star Stan Williams, represented here by an outstanding game-worn Dodgers road grey flannel from his Rookie campaign in 1958. The shirt has royal-blue piping around the collar edge and the entire button path, and double piping sleeve ends in the same fashion. It boasts ragland sleeves and the seven-button front, with four original and three replacement; the iconic “Dodgers” script in royal-blue felt is on the front, zig-zag affixed with straight-stitch reinforcement. Williams’ No. 32 is affixed, a replacement for No. 40, with thread outline remnants visible; the replaced No. 32 is an inferior-grade felt, with the change likely done at a minor-league complex. It has Wilson Size 44 oversized tail label, with “32” hand marked on the label and “1958 Set 2” in original chain-link above the label, with “32” hand marked beneath the label faintly visible. It is a stunning, significant artifact from a key figure in Dodgers’ lore after their heartbreaking move from Brooklyn to the West Coast, a piece that is eminently displayable, especially from the front.
