Presented is a truly nice example of one of the more unique Topps football efforts of the postwar era, the 1969 issue that seems to celebrate the impending merger of the two professional football leagues with two distinct design configurations within a single offering. With full-bleed borderless cards from Nos. 1-132 and traditional white borders thereafter, the set boasts a condition-sensitive moniker for the first series. The offered set is a striking consistent presentation, with bold, vivid colors and a very uniform look, even with two design styles. It comes out to 21 percent Near-Mint, 52 percent Ex-Mt and 21 percent Excellent, with six percent below, mostly to Very Good. The two missing cards are No. 120 Csonka Rookie and No. 262. The breakdown: No. 1 Kelly – Very Good, 6 Hayes – Near-Mint, 20 Dawson – Ex-Mt-Plus, 25 Unitas – Excellent m/c, 26 Piccolo Rookie – Ex, 34 Olsen – Nr-Mt, 51 Sayers – Ex-Plus, 53 Lilly – Ex, 55 Nitschke – Good, 60 Maynard – Ex-Mt, 65 Wilson – Good, 69 Alworth – VG, 75 Meredith – VG, 80 Checklist – Ex-Mt (mk), 100 Namath – Good, 114 Mitchell – Nr-Mt, 123 Karras – Ex, 132 Checklist – Ex, 139 Butkus – Nr-Mt, 150 Tarkenton – Ex-Mt, 161 Griese – Ex-Mt-Plus, 163 Otto – Ex-Mt, 201 Biletnikoff – Nr-Mt, 207 Mackey – Ex, 215 Starr – VG, 227 Jurgensen – Ex-Mt, 232 Blanda – Ex-Mt, 249 Brodie – Ex-Mt, 251 Little – Nr-Mt o/c and 263 Lamonica – VG.
