Presented is a nice example of one of the key Topps football issues from the 1970s, the expanded 1972 set that featured the most difficult high series from the many period Topps football sets the company produced over the years. The offered near set is missing just a half dozen cards, all from the high series and listed at the end of this entry. As is not uncommon, there is noticeable condition disparity between the early and high series, in this instance with the lower numbers broadly Near-Mint, with a few Ex-Mt, and displaying the coveted “vending bend” that bespeaks of uncirculated cardboard. The high series is closer to Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some below and even some Near-Mint; there are perhaps two dozen reaching Very Good, and a handful of Good and Fair specimens.
