Here is a remarkable lot for boxing fans, an array of truly important cards touching on so many of the legendary figures from the postwar boxing era, cards from arguably the two most important and coveted issues from that same period. It begins with an impressive group of more than two dozen cards from 1948 Leaf, with the skip-numbered classic 2 3/8-by-2 7/8-inch cards broadly in Good to Very Good condition and a much larger array from the coveted 1951 Topps Ringside issue mostly Very Good to Ex-Mt condition. In both instances, many of the legendary figures from the sport are included in the mix, including some of the most-popular boxers of several generations. Here’s the breakdown: 1948 Leaf (29) – No. 2, 7, 8, 9, 17 Johnson – VG-Ex, 18, 19, 24, 25, 32 Schmeling, 33, 35, 36, 38, 42, 44, 48 Louis – Very Good, 60, 65, 67, 69 Willard - VG, 71, 73 Tunney – VG-Plus, 74, 77, 78, 82, 88 and 90; 1951 Topps Ringside Partial Set (72/96) – 2 1/16-by-2 15/16 inches – overall comes out to 14 percent Ex-Mt, 50 percent Excellent, 27 percent Very Good, 10 percent Good, with one card below – No. 51 Willard presents in Ex-Mt fashion but is Evidence of Trim and No. 88 Louis presents in the same fashion but is 1/16th of an inch short – No. 3 La Motta – Very Good, 6 Walcott – VG-Ex, 11 Baer – Good, 12 Conn – VG, 24 Braddock – Good, 30 Zale – VG, 31 Walcott – Excellent, 34 Robinson/Servo - Good, 43 Robinson – VG, 66 Firpo – Ex, 69 Sullivan – VG-Ex, 85 Walcott/Charles – VG-Ex and 96 Charles – VG.
