Here are a couple of truly unique items linked to an important figure in postwar baseball history, Bill Bartholomay, who was part of a consortium that brought the Boston Braves to Milwaukee in 1953 then whisked them away to Atlanta as club president a mere 13 years later. The former Braves owner is commemorated here with an Adirondack bat from the 1970 All-Star Game at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati; the second piece is even more exotic, a 12-inch square gold painted-metal seat from his owner’s box in Atlanta. The plate has some pitting and tarnish and small, unobtrusive scratching and has “Box A” engraved at the center. The 34 ½-inch bat is Ex-Mt-Plus and has a bronze nameplate above the center label noting “1970 All-Star Game at Riverfront Stadium” and has a bit of tarnishing; the barrel has engraved “Big Stick” and “Bill Bartholomay,” with the latter name oddly broken between “Bart” and “holomay” in order to accommodate it to the barrel.
