Presented is a truly striking turn-of-the-century photograph picturing sailors from the battleship U.S.S. Kearsarge posing for a nifty quad-team photo in a sepia-toned image taken from onboard the ship that is 5-by-6 ½ inches and mounted to a backing bringing the dimensions to 6-by-7 ¾ inches. The photograph is in Ex-Mt condition, and the matting close to that, probably Excellent with some light staining. The image shows members of the Baseball, Football and Track squads, along with the Raceboats Crew, as it was noted in hand markings on the back of the matting. Anybody who has ever been in the service knows that the only thing that sailors and soldiers take more seriously than sports would be, uh, war stuff. This is a great artifact from more than a century ago, a wonderful nod to both amateur athletics and also to the men (at the time) of the military services.
