Presented is a remarkable assortment of vintage Detroit Tigers memorabilia, an amazing array that includes hundreds of photos, including many first-generation Wirephotos, Lineup Cards, Ticket Stubs, vintage trading cards, slides and much more. It’s a simply stunning presentation of important Tigers pieces that touches on the key stars from several generations along with their American League counterparts, headlined by four dozen photographs of the most beloved Tiger of all, Al Kaline, plus a scorecard from similarly beloved broadcaster Ernie Harwell and a pair of ticket stubs from 1935. It’s the kind of lot that begs for a good deal of close examination and an array that Tiger fans would find intriguing on a number of different levels. The temptation would be to try to present this chronologically, but the vastness and diverse nature makes that problematic. Here’s the breakdown (photos are black-and-white unless otherwise indicated and are broadly Ex-Mt or better, revealing the handling that comes from newspaper editors): 1935 Tigers Ticket Stubs (2) - Ex-Mt-Plus, from Navin Field, July 7, with accompanying photo copy of Detroit News article about the contest; 1936 National Chicle R311 Glossy Finish Premiums (2), 6-by-8 inches, of Mickey Cochrane – Very Good and 1934 Tigers Team – VG-Ex; 1940 Play Balls and other vintage cards (10), with Play Balls Ex-Mt to Near-Mint – Nos. 44, 45, 80, 135, 136 and 137, plus 1949 Leaf No. 17 – VG-Ex (mk), 1949 Bowman No, 219 – VG-Ex, 1953 Topps No. 39 Trout – Very Good and 1954 Red Heart Kuenn – VG; 1940 Tigers Home Schedule Decal – Fair; 1949 Letter on MLB Commissioner stationery, two pages, 9 ½-by-14 inches, listing individual Tigers’ shares from the World Series pool (roughly 338 bucks each), with signature from Treasurer Waler Mulbury; 1968 “Year of the Tiger ‘68” phonograph record (Near-Mint) with record cover (Fair); 1968 Dexter Press Premiums (2) 5 ½-by-7 inches, color, of Al Kaline – Ex-Mt; 1968 By-By Birdies 16-by-4-inch Tigers Bumper Sticker – Ex-Mt-Plus; 1980s Tigers Official Lineup cards (5), from 6 ½-by-11 inches to about 9-by-13 inches – 1982 (2), 1985 (2) and 1987 – Ex-Mt or better; 1985 Snack Time Tigers Uncut Sheet, 16 ¼-by-13 inches, with 20 Tigers from 1984 World Series Champions – presents Ex-Mt-Plus with tiny tear; 1980s Tigers Organizational Record Books (4) – Near-Mint or better – from 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1987; 1980s color slides by photographer Jim Wiley (15), all of Alan Trammell; Ernie Harwell’s personal scorecard, autographed and scored in red and black ink, 13 ½-by-6 ½ inches, from Sept. 23, 2000, game against the Yankees (NY 13-8, with Jeter home run and Rivera Save); 1956-81 Al Kaline photos (48), all but two black-and-white, with many individual shots and others with the likes of Colavito, Cash, Freehan, Northrup, Lary, Mayo Smith, Dykes, Dressen, Boros, Lary, Martin, Callison, Perronoski, Kemp and Gibson; 1961-80s Wirephotos (104), many first generation with newspaper or wire service official stamping on the reverse, including United Press International, Associated Press, The Buffalo Evening News, The Houston Post and the Cleveland Plain Dealer, to name a few – an array that includes action and posed-action shots, spring training, locker room, baserunning, plays at home plate, executives, signings and celebrations – including Aguirre (2), Allen, Alvarez, Battey, Blanchard, Boros, Clete Boyer, Brinkman (2), Dick Brown (3), Ike Brown (3), Buford, Bunning, Bruton (8), VP Campbell (2), Cash (8), Cavaretta, Colavito (3), Coleman (3), Cramer, Dressen (6), Dykes, Evers, Fernandez (2), Fetzer (2), Fisk, Foytack, Freehan (11), Frick, Fryman, Gibson, Greenwell, Guiterrez (2), Honochick, Houk, Horton (4), Hutchinson, Sam Jones, Keane (2), Kell, Lary (5), Locker, Lolich (5), Maddox, Marshall, Martin (4), McAuliffe, McHale, McLain (3), Joe Niekro, Parrish, Bubba Phillips, Gaylord Perry, Petrocelli, Priddy, Rakow (2), Regan, Rodriguez, Mayo Smith, Sparma (3), Swift, Joe Schultz, Schilling, Jason Thompson, Tillman (2), Triandos, Versalles, Veryzer, Wert, Whitaker, Wilson (2) and Wood; Mostly 1980s Black-and-White Photos Group (41) – many with stamping from photographers, including a dozen from 1984 and the World Series Championship season, with nine of the total having the famed The Sporting News Collection hologram affixed to the backs, with a lineup that includes Sparky Anderson (2), Crawford, Dobson, Gibson, Fidrych (2), Houk, Kemp, Lopez, Lynn Jones, Lemon (3), Muffett, Tony Phillips, Trammell and Whitaker; Color Photo Group (12) – most are 8-by-10 inches, a few smaller – including Sparky Anderson, Berra, Kaline, Cecil Fielder, 1984 World Series parade, Trammell and locker room celebrations; and oversized photos (8) as follows: 1) 1968 Detroit News Wirephoto of 1968 pennant-winning celebration, 10-by-11 ½ inches; 2) 1969 Detroit Free Press Wirephoto of Denny McLain, 10-by-14 inches, with The Sporting News Collection Hologram affixed to the back; 3) Color photograph of Rusty Staub, 11-by-14 inches, affixed to a firm backing; 4) Black-and-white photograph of Billy Martin, 11-by-14 inches; 5) 1971 Dick McAuliffe black-and-white 10-by-12-inch Wirephoto with Oakland Tribune stamping and The Sporting News Collection Hologram affixed to the back; and 6) Comerica Park photos (3) – 8-by-12 inches.
