This is an intriguing array of mostly Hall of Famers from 1960s-70s Topps and Philadelphia Gum football, an array that presents better than the technical grade and offers a real opportunity to pick up an extraordinary number of Hall of Famers that might otherwise be cost prohibitive. The Topps array is broadly Excellent to Ex-Mt, with some above and below the range, and the Philly Gum group is just a whisper below, generally Very Good to Excellent, again with some above and below the range. A veritable boatload of many of the most important cards of the era from both companies are included in the mix, with names like Unitas, Sayers, Starr, Hornung, Jurgensen, Namath, Butkus, Tarkenton and a host of others with roughly 80 percent of the array being members of the Hall of Fame. The only discouraging word would be that the vast majority of the group would be saddled with an (mk) qualifier, dictated by an overly enthusiastic young collector who felt compelled to make ballpoint corrections on the card backs, adjusting for such arcane items such as player age and tenure with his team, among others. The breakdown: 1966 Topps (6) – Alworth, Biletnikoff, Blanda, Buoniconti, Maynard and Otto; 1967 Topps (5) – Alworth, Buchanan, Dawson, Kemp and Otto; 1968 Topps (11) – with some Very Good or VG-Ex, Blanda, Brodie Rookie, Griese Rookie (Excellent), Kemp, Kelly, Little, Tarkenton and Taylor; 1969 Topps (22) – with some Very Good or VG-Ex, Csonka Rookie (Ex-Mt-Plus), Unitas (VG-Ex), Sayers (Good), Piccolo Rookie (Ex), Dawson, Jones and Csonka; 1973 Topps (2) – Stabler and Tarkenton; 1974 Topps Griese; 1975 Topps (15) – Swan Rookie (2), Staubach, Bradshaw, Blanda, Harris, Guy, Morris, Fouts and Griese; 1976 Topps Griese; 1977 Topps (8) – Selmon Rookie, Staubach, Bradshaw, Warfield, Simpson, Lambert, Jones and Tarkenton; 1965 Philadelphia Gum (14) – Unitas, Hornung, Eller Rookie, Krause Rookie, Moore, Jurgensen, Tarkenton, Jones, Parker, Brown, Lilly, Marshall and Gregg; 1966 Philadelphia Gum (25) – Sayers Rookie, Starr (Good), Butkus Rookie, Hayes, McDonald, Jim Taylor, Charley Taylor, Moore, Tarkenton, Olsen, Jones, Lilly, Meredith and Gregg (3); and 1967 Philadelphia Gum (13) – Unitas, Ditka, Butkus, Hayes, Kelly, McDonald (2), Jones, Taylor, Kramer and Jordan.
