July 21, 2022: Summer Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/21/2022
Offered are more than three dozen Topps Baseball Traded sets in their original boxes, an array dominated by a whopping total of 19 from 1986 (think a certain svelte Barry Bonds and Bo Jackson) and a minimum of at least one set per year for the entire run from the inaugural issue in 1981 to 1991. At 132 cards each, the Traded set proved to be a popular complement to the mainstream Topps issue each year, providing cards of key Rookies and significant trades in a genre immediately identified with enhanced, stunning photography, exceptional gloss and centering that was just as outstanding. Over the span of this intriguing array would come coveted Rookie cards from the likes of Cal Ripken, Greg Maddux, Ken Griffey Jr., Jeff Bagwell, Fernando and Raines and legendary New York Mets Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden. As an added bonus, one of the 1983 Topps Traded Strawberry Rookies has been nicely autographed by Strawberry, and duly attested to by Beckett Authentication. The cards involved, a bit more than 5,000 in all, are in outstanding Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint or better condition; the boxes only a whisper below at roughly Ex-Mt to Near-Mint. Here’s the breakdown: 1981 (2), 1982 (1), 1983 (2), 1984 (1), 1985 (4), 1986 (19), 1987 (2), 1988 (1), 1989 (4), 1990 (1) and 1991 (1).
