Presented is a truly imposing group of many of the most important cards from the classic 1955 Topps Baseball issue, an array that is largely Excellent to Near-Mint, with a roster that features seven Hall of Famers, five key Rookie cards, eight High-Number stars and seven cards from the fabled 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, no longer waiting till next year. One of the great cards of the entire decade, the No. 2 Ted Williams, is found here in a PSA 2.5 holder, and headlines the group that also includes the likes of Warren Spahn, Monte Irvin, Gil Hodges, Phil Rizzuto, Hal Newhouser and Billy Herman. The Rookie lineup is similarly outstanding, with names like Amoros, Grim, Boyer, Agganis and Roebuck. And even amid a group of legendary Hall of Famers and important Rookie cards, it’s one of the High-Number beauties, a Near-Mint to Mint No. 197 Al Smith, that turns out to be a particularly difficult and expensive outlier. Here’s the breakdown – Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint (5): No. 75 Amoros Rookie, 100 Irvin, 189 Rizzuto, 190 Woodling (Nr-Mt-Plus) and 193 Smith (Nr-Mt to Mt); Ex-Mt (7): No. 1 Rhodes, 19 Herman, 25 Podres, 120 Kluszewski, 125 Boyer Rookie, 162 Agganis Rookie and 195 Roebuck Rookie; Excellent-Plus (7): No. 5 Gilliam, 22 Skowron, 24 Newhouser, 31 Spahn, 109 Lopat, 156 Black and 187 Hodges; VG-Ex-Plus (2): No. 80 Grim Rookie and No. 200 Jensen; and Good-Plus: No. 2 Ted Williams – PSA 2.5.
