July 21, 2022: Summer Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/21/2022
Offered is an imposing partial set from the classic 1960 Topps Baseball issue, a group that includes nearly two dozen Hall of Famers and a boatload of Specials, All-Stars and stars, plus a large group (28) of cards from the difficult Seventh Series and an even larger group from the popular Managers subset in Series Three. It is an array with a good deal of duplication that sometimes even touches some of the key stars of the era and in many of the various Specials; the group is headlined by high-grade cards from the likes of Henry Aaron, Al Kaline, Gil Hodges and a host of other Hall of Famers. The partial set is found in a somewhat wider condition range than what might typically be encountered in mature collections, broadly Very Good to Near-Mint, with some below. Along with the nearly two dozen Hall of Famers there are significant arrays from the Rookie Stars subset (45) in Series Two, seven All-Stars from Series Seven, seven Team cards, four Coaches and four Combination cards. It’s an old-fashioned style auction lot, loaded with value and just begging for a good deal of close examination. In the listing that follows, the card indicated is the player’s regular-issue version unless otherwise noted. The breakdown: Aaron (Near-Mint), Koufax (Good), Mathews (Excellent), Kaline (2, Nr-Mt and Ex-Mt), Hodges (3), Fox, Wynn, Anderson (2), Schoendienst (2), Mazeroski and Roberts, plus Felipe Alou (3), Antonelli (2), Bell, Boyer, Burdette, Burgess (2), Colavito, Covington (2), Crandall (5), Cuellar (2), Donovan (3), Face, Friend (2), Grant, Elston Howard, Frank Howard, Kuenn, Lemon (2), Martin (3), Neal, Pearson (3), Piersall, Pinson, Podres, Post (2), Simmons, Smith, Stuart (3), Thomson, Turley (3), Wertz (2), White, Woodling (2) and Yost.
