Presented here is a high-grade accumulation of cards from the difficult 1971 Topps Baseball issue, the company’s largest offering to that time and easily the most condition-sensitive issue the venerable Brooklyn-based behemoth has ever produced. The full-bleed black borders have long made the issue a challenge for collectors, making this a nice, collectible Excellent to Ex-Mt offering (with some falling below the range), with the emphasis to Ex-Mt. This array constitutes more than 81 percent of a complete set; more than two dozen Hall of Famers are included in this group, along with many All-Stars, stars and Specials. The condition declines a bit in the later series as is not uncommon in mature collections; a total of 137 cards are included above No. 500. Breakdown of keys: No. 1 Orioles Team – Very Good, 5 Munson – VG-Ex m/c, 20 Jackson – VG-Ex, 26 Blyleven Rookie – VG, 45 Hunter – Ex-Mt, 50 McCovey Excellent-Plus, 54 Checklist – VG (mk), 100 Rose – Ex-Mt-Plus, 117 Simmons Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, 140 Perry – Near-Mint, 160 Seaver – VG-Ex, 180 Kaline – Ex-Mt, 183 Hodges – Ex-Plus, 210 Carew – Ex, 220 Santo – Ex-Mt, 230 Stargell – Ex-Mt, 248 Wilhelm – Ex-Mt, 264 Morgan – Ex, 290 Oliva – Ex-Mt, 300 Brooks Robinson – Ex-Mt-Plus, 325 Marichal – VG-Ex, 341 Garvey Rookie – Ex-Mt, 350 Williams – Ex o/c, 370 Torre – Ex-Mt o/c, 380 Ted Williams – Ex-Plus, 450 Gibson – Nr-Mt, 640 Frank Robinson – VG-Ex, 688 Anderson – Good and 740 Aparicio – Good.
