Here’s an enormous group of primarily 1970s Topps Football, a mostly Very Good to Ex-Mt (after 1972, condition improves to closer to Excellent to Ex-Mt with some above to Near-Mint and below) array that boasts more than 250 Hall of Famers and similar numbers of Specials. It’s an old-fashioned auction lot that begs for a good deal of close examination. In all references, a notation of a player’s name indicates his regular-issue Topps card unless otherwise indicated. Here’s a breakdown (numbers are approximate): 1968 Topps Football – Starr – VG-Ex; 1969 Topps (3) – Starr (Good), Csonka and Otto; 1970 Topps (75) – with eight Hall of Famers, including Griese, Kelly, Mackey, Bell and Otto; 1971 Topps (200) – with three or four dozen Hall of Famers, including Namath, Greene Rookie (2), Bradshaw Rookie, Starr, Unitas (2), Griese, Simpson, Butkus (2) and Tarkenton (2); 1972 Topps (150) – four dozen Hall of Famers, including Unitas, Bradshaw, Namath, Simpson (2), Butkus, Greene, Tarkenton (3), Blanda, Griese, Manning Rookie, Riggins and Olsen; 1973 (275) – six dozen Hall of Famers, including Ham Rookie (2), Bradshaw, Staubach (3), Namath, Greene (7), Griese (9), Jones (3), Alworth, Tarkenton (2), Butkus (3), Bell (8), Olsen (4) and Eller (4); 1974 Topps (75) – four dozen Hall of Famers, including Simpson, Guy Rookie, Unitas (4), Butkus (2), Bradshaw (3), Greene (2), Harris (4) and Blanda (4); 1975 Topps (200) – more than three dozen Hall of Famers, including Staubach (2), Harris (4), Bradshaw (2), Greene (2), Tarkenton (4), Olsen (4), Eller (5), Page (2) and Upshaw (2); 1976 Topps (25); 1977 Topps (100) – including Payton (Ex-Mt-Plus); 1978 Topps (50); 1979 Topps (25); and Miscellaneous (60) – including 1970 Topps Stand-ups (20), Topps Game Inserts, 1970-71 Kellogg’s and Wonder Bread.
