Presented is an imposing array of mostly baseball and football Topps posters, an array that is heavy on Hall of Famers and many of the major stars from both sports in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The grouping includes posters from 1968 and 1970 Topps Baseball, 1970 and 1971 Topps Football and just to make sure everyone was paying attention, a handful of Andy Gibb Posters from 1978. The 1968 Topps Baseball Posters issue is found here in a highly presentable mostly Excellent to Ex-Mt condition, with just a wee bit of the cracking and minor tearing that are hallmarks of the issue. It is easily one of the most difficult 1960’s Topps issues to find in better grades, a condition-sensitive oversized poster – 9 ¾-by-18 1/8 inches – that challenges collectors to accumulate examples in top condition. Unlike the typical inserts included with mainstream Topps regular-issue cards, these huge color posters were sold in individual packs with gum, with 24 players – mostly Hall of Famers and greet stars – comprising a full set. Offered is ½ of a complete set, including seven Hall of Famers. The breakdown: No. 1 Chance, 3 Howard, 4 Fregosi, 7 Drysdale – Ex-Mt-Plus, 9 Kaline – Near-Mint, 10 Killebrew – Ex-Mt-Plus, 12 Cepeda – Ex-Mt-Plus, 16 Yastrzemski – Nr-Mt, 17 Swoboda, 21 Santo – Nr-Mt, 22 Staub and 24 Frank Robinson – Good. The 24-poster 1970 Topps Baseball issue – 8 11/16-by-9 5/8 inches – includes 13 posters in mostly Good condition, with some of the expected cracking and tears. The breakdown: No. 1 – Poor, 3 Davis, 5 Santo, 7 McCovey – Fair, 9 Messersmith, 10 Fairly, 11 Bench – Good, 15 Dierker, 18 Brown, 21 Clemente – Good, 22 Howard, 23 Campaneris and 24 McLain. The 1970 Topps Football Posters (7) are 8-by-10-inches and feature colorful artwork of legendary NFL figures that were inserted into Series II packs of 1970 Topps Football cards. The posters are largely Excellent to Ex-Mt. Here’s the breakdown: No. 2 Bell, 3 Gabriel, 14 Wilson, 16 Alworth, 19 Lilly, 20 Tingelhoff and 22 Warfield – VG-Ex. The 5-by-7-inch 1971 Topps Posters (7) are in essentially the same Excellent to Ex-Mt range, and include No. 6, 7 Griese, 9, 10 Starr (Ex-Mt-Plus), 12 Sayers (Excellent), 14 and 16. The final pieces are the four (4) Andy Gibb Posters from 1978, The Stigwood Group, Nos. 9, 26, 28 and 25 – 10-by-15 inches – Ex-Mt condition.
