Here’s a chance to close out the 1970s with three pristine Topps baseball sets, 1977-79, with most of the cards the breathtaking variety from vending, with a big pile of mostly 1978 Topps extras, that last group including nearly two dozen Hall of Famers; the 1978 section also has a handful of extras with Cooperstown credentials, including three additional Ozzie Smith Rookies. Here’s the breakdown: 1977 Topps Set (660) – Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with some below, plus a handful of extras a bit below, including three Munsons and Schmidt; 1978 Topps (726 set, plus 630 extras) – set is mostly Near-Mint or better, with some below and in headlined by a PSA 7 Murray Rookie; the lineup of extras with a good bit of duplication includes Ryan (Good), Bench, Brett, Yount, Morgan, Carlton (2), Winfield, Rice (3), Perry (2), Murphy Rookie (2), Whitaker Rookie (2), Jenkins (3), Simmons, Anderson (3) and Lasorda (2), plus 23 Team cards, 16 rookies and six Checklists; 1979 Topps Set (726) - Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with some below, an array clearly from vending, with the coveted “vending bend,” along with some of the centering vagaries typically connected to the genre; a handful of extras includes three Ozzie Smith Rookies.
