Here are seven sets from the dawn of the modern baseball card business, a half dozen from the two newcomers in 1981 – Fleer and Donruss – and a 1983 Topps set, arguably the company’s finest effort in that decade. All seven sets are essentially as issued, mostly Near-Mint or better, certainly with the emphasis to Near-Mint to Mint, with perhaps only a few Ex-Mt cards from the minor dings that typically come from being jostled a bit in the box. The Tier One Hall of Famers and stars conform to the wider condition range and the entire array boasts wonderful color and gloss and the uniform presentation that comes from largely uncirculated cardboard. The breakdown: 1) 1981 Fleer Complete Set (4 sets, 660 cards each) – Near-Mint or better, a few Ex-Mt; 2) 1981 Donruss Complete Set (2 sets, 605 cards each) – Near-Mint or better; and 3) 1983 Topps (792) – Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint.
