This lot will take you back in time as much as 40 years to pick up baseball card sets precisely as they were issued way back when, going back to the time when Topps grudgingly relinquished its dominant role as the sole producer of baseball cards. Here are Topps and Fleer sets from 1981 and 1982, plus the unique 1985 Topps offering and the final piece, the groundbreaking 1989 Upper Deck issued that marked yet another turning point for the hobby. It amounts to more than 4,400 cards looking precisely as they did at issue, which is to say Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint or better. As you might expect, there’s no discernible difference between the Tier One Hall of Famers and stars and the hoi polloi; the iconic 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Rookie card appears to fit that description as well as any other card, but would probably be saddled with a Very Good appellation due to some barely perceptible waviness. Call it the stutter that accents the eloquence.
