Here are two extremely important issues of the iconic Sports Illustrated magazine, the first two issues in August of 1954, both in highly collectible condition and featuring the two unique baseball card foldouts that helped to make historic, inaugural issues even more significant. With Milwaukee Braves slugger Eddie Mathews pictured on the cover of the inaugural Aug. 16, 1954 issue, it featured 144 pages and, most notably for card collectors, a unique three-page fold out picturing 27 cards from the 1954 Topps Baseball issue. The offered magazine is in Very Good condition, with the important full-color foldout in truly superb condition as well. The second issue of Sports Illustrated, one week later at Aug. 23, 1954, is 88 pages, found here in VG-Ex condition, again with the three-page baseball card foldout in similarly outstanding condition. Unlike the genuine Topps cards pictured in the inaugural issue, the three-page foldout for Issue No. 2 featured 15 actual Topps cards from 1954 in full color and 10 fictional “cards that never were” in black-and-white, the latter group including a “card” of Mickey Mantle, who was not included in the actual 1954 Topps issue.
