This lot offers a typed and signed letter from James A. Van Allen, who was an American space scientist at NASA and was instrumental in establishing the field of magnetospheric research in space. The Van Allen radiation belts are named after him, following his discovery using Geiger-Muller tube instruments on the 1958 satellites. Van Allen led the scientific community in putting research instruments on space satellites. This letter is dated July 12, 2002 and signed in black ink.
