Here are five complete sets from the historic 1980 Topps Baseball issue looking almost precisely as they did when they rolled off the presses more than 40 years ago, which is to say Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with blazing color and superb gloss and a lineup of Hall of Famers and stars that conform to the wider condition range, including the key No. 482 Rickey Henderson Rookie. The exception to the rule – call it the stutter that accents the eloquence – is a trio of three of the No. 600 Reggie Jackson cards that come in at Ex-Mt, Excellent and Very Good. As noted, this is an historic issue that marked the end of Topps’ extraordinary quarter-century monopoly in the baseball card business, ushering in the dawn of the modern baseball-card manufacturing era and forever altering the complexion of a once-innocent hobby and rite of passage for generations of youngsters.
