Presented is a nice mostly Very Good to Ex-Mt example of one of the more unique Topps football efforts of the postwar era, with some cards below and some above to Near-Mint. The colorful 1969 issue seems to celebrate the impending merger of the two professional football leagues with two distinct design configurations within a single offering. With full-bleed borderless cards from Nos. 1-132 and traditional white borders thereafter, the set boasts a condition-sensitive moniker for the first series. The offered set provides a relatively consistent presentation, with bold, vivid colors and a very uniform look, even with two design styles and a condition range a bit wider than is typically encountered in mature collections. The missing card is No. 263 Lamonica. The breakdown of keys and some condition anomalies: No. 1 – Kelly – Very Good, 6 Hayes – Excellent-Plus, 20 Dawson – VG, 25 Unitas – Good, 26 Piccolo Rookie – VG, 32 – Good, 51 Sayers – VG-Ex, 55 Nitschke – Good, 80 Checklist – Near-Mint, 100 Namath – VG, 120 Csonka – VG-Ex, 132 Checklist – Good, 139 Butkus – VG-Ex, 150 Tarkenton – Ex, 160 – Good, 161 Griese – VG, 166 Jordan – Good, 215 Starr – Ex-Mt-Plus, 227 Jurgensen – VG-Ex, 238 Jones – VG and 249 Brodie – VG.
