Here are 10 complete sets from the 1982 Topps Baseball issue looking almost precisely as they did when they rolled off the presses 40 years ago, which is to say Near-Mint to Near-Mint to Mint, with blazing color and superb gloss and a lineup of Hall of Famers and stars that conform to the wider condition range, excepting only three No. 21 Cal Ripken Rookies, coming in at Ex-Mt-Plus, Ex-Mt and Excellent-Plus. That’s almost 8,000 cards looking largely as God, or at least Topps, intended, in a key issue that marked the second year of the modern baseball-card business, with three companies now producing cards after Topps’ extraordinary quarter-century atop the industry without significant challengers.
