Presented is the key card from the classic 1969 Topps Baseball set, the No. 500 Mickey Mantle card that represents the final regular-issue Topps card in the Hall of Famers legendary career. The card is in Excellent condition, with nice color and gloss and decent centering of 60/40 right to left and 70/30 top to bottom. Since Mantle announced his retirement on March 1, 1969, Topps presumably had adequate time to put the kibosh on a card that would appear in the Sixth Series, but they wisely left The Mick in, producing a special card that includes his final lifetime statistics. It’s a fitting conclusion to a remarkable almost 20-year relationship with the card maker that started with the most famous and cherished card of the postwar era, his fabled 1952 Topps that has nudged its way into the upper echelon of collectibles of any sort, commanding millions of dollars in the highest grades.
