From one of the great photographic issues from the decade comes this nice condition set from 1963 Topps, an offering with an uncommonly broad range of condition – essentially Very Good to Near-Mint – but with some truly blazing, pristine examples and a nice clean overall presentation. Two cards have been third-party slabbed and graded: No. 537 Rose Rookie – PSA 4, No. 540 Clemente – PSA 5; a third, No. 553 Stargell Rookie, was declined encapsulation because of Minimum Size. While the condition range is wider than normal, the emphasis is to the upper end of the range, with sharp photographic images and excellent focus and good gloss. In an uncommon bonus, almost all of the Near-Mint cards in the set come from the higher numbers in the Sixth and Seventh Series; overall, the set comes out to six percent Near-Mint, 24 percent Ex-Mt, 28 percent Excellent, 36 percent Very Good, four percent Good and just a handful of cards below the range. Two variations, from the Series Two and Series Six Checklist cards, are included.
