Presented is an outstanding run of attractive yearbooks from one of the beloved National League franchises, the Pittsburgh Pirates, chronicled through the postwar years from 1951-69, an important stretch that encompassed much of the careers of Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Bill Mazeroski, along with the magic moment of Pirates history in the fall of 1960 when Mazeroski’s Game Seven World Series homer finished off one of the great upsets in the annals of the Fall Classic. The array is in a striking and uniform presentation, with the 8 ½-by-11-inch yearbooks typically boasting full-color covers and back page and 48 interior pages typically black-and-white. There is one issue for each of the 19 years except for that glorious 1960 campaign, represented here by a regular issue and a revised later edition. Here’s the breakdown: 1) 1951 – cover is Fair and inside pages Ex-Mt-Plus; 2) 1952 – cover is Good and inside pages VG-Ex; 3) 1953 – cover is Ex-Mt and inside pages Ex-Mt to Near-Mint; 4) 1954 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages present Ex-Mt to Near-Mint, with eight pages at the back having a tiny nick at the bottom edge that does not materially detract from the presentation; 5) 1955 – cover is Ex-Mt-Plus and inside pages Ex-Mt-Plus to Near-Mint (a spectacular ½-page advertisement for 1955 Topps Baseball cards appears on the back cover); 6) 1956 – cover is Ex-Mt and inside pages mostly Ex-Mt-Plus; 7) 1957 – cover and inside pages are Ex-Mt-Plus; 8) 1958 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex-Mt-Plus to Nr-Mt; 9) 1959 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex to Ex-Mt; 10) 1960 (2) – regular and revised – with the former cover Good and latter Ex-Mt-Plus and inside pages mostly Nr-Mt; 11) 1961 World Champions – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex-Mt; 12) 1962 – cover is Very Good and inside pages VG-Ex; 13) 1963 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex; 14) 1964 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex-Mt-Plus to Nr-Mt; 15) 1965 – cover is Ex-Mt and inside pages Ex to Ex-Mt; 16) 1966 – cover is VG-Ex, with spot color gold on inside pages Ex-Mt; 17) 1967 – cover is Ex to Ex-Mt and inside pages Ex-Mt; 18) 1968 – cover is Ex to Ex-Mt and inside pages Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt; and 19) 1969 – cover is VG-Ex and inside pages Ex-Mt to Nr-Mt.
