This is a solid example of an historic vintage football issue, the 1960 Fleer set that was the company’s first football effort as they tried to muscle their way into the sports card arena then dominated by archrival Topps. The near set boasts particularly vivid colors and gloss in an array that is perhaps in a bit wider condition range than might be typically encountered, basically Very Good to Near-Mint, with fully 60 percent being Ex-Mt to Near-Mint and 37 percent Very Good to Excellent, with only a couple of cards below to Good. The 1960 Fleer set featured cards of the fledgling American Football League, the brash newcomers attempting a bit of their own muscling into the rough-and-tumble world of the National Football League. Perhaps three or four dozen cards have the kind of centering that might prompt thoughts of an upgrade, though not all of those would necessarily be affixed with an off-center designation. The missing numbers: No. 18, 28, 48, 89, 94, 110 and 114. Breakdown of keys: No. 1 White – VG-Ex, 7 Gillman Rookie – Good, 20 Baugh – Excellent, 58 Blanda – Ex, 66 Cannon Rookie – Ex, 73 Haynes Rookie – VG-Ex, 76 Lowe Rookie – VG-Ex, 116 Stram Rookie – Ex-Mt-Plus, 118 Mix Rookie – Ex-Plus o/c, 124 Kemp Rookie – Ex o/c, 128 McGuire Rookie – VG-Ex, and Beagle – VG-Ex o/c.
